Your Health Lab: A Modern Lab with History

Your Health Lab is a family-owned, full-service laboratory that’s been proudly serving Texans for over 40 years. We take great pride in providing all the options, tests and services our competitors do, but our business model is a little different from the “big guys.” While we excel at the clinical side of lab work, we also give our patients and providers the personal attention and care they deserve. So sum up, lab work is an important part of health care, and we believe it can be a great experience for everyone involved.

The History

Your Health Lab originated from Regional Medical Laboratory, established in 1957 by Dr. Paul Obert. Regional Medical Laboratory was a Clinical and Anatomic Pathology Laboratory located in Victoria, Texas. In 1975, Dr. Leonard Gietz began working at Regional Medical Laboratory as a pathologist. After that, Dr. Gietz left the company in 1978 to join the military, then returned to Victoria in 1981 following his service. Subsequently, Dr. Gietz went into practice with Dr. Bigelow, and the two partners ended up purchasing Regional Medical Laboratory. After that, Regional Medical Laboratory operated as a small community clinical lab performing Hematology and Chemistry tests with a small number of employees. After Dr. Bigelow retired in 1988, the business then became a sole proprietorship owned by Dr. Gietz.

Your Health Lab

After growing up working in the lab industry under the direction of his father, James Gietz co-founded Your Health Lab in 2001. James brings his experience as a Financial Statement Auditor for Arthur Andersen, LLP, his Certified Public Accountant Certificate, and his BAA from Emory University in accounting and finance to the company. Under his direction as the current CEO of Your Health Lab, the company has above all established itself as an innovative, service-based business that puts patients and providers first.

The Vision

The original plan for Your Health Lab was to create a Direct Access laboratory for walk-in customers. After subsequently launching in Houston, the lab quickly increased its services to include the more traditional laboratory model. This involved building connections with physicians who refer patients for lab work. Today, Your Health Lab has expanded across the South, and now has operations in Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Florida in addition to most of Texas. Above all, Your Health Lab works to create the best experience possible for everyone who uses our services.

A Modern Lab with History

Our mission is to improve the health and lives of our patients. Above all, we do this by providing the best diagnostic insights, brings innovative medicines to patients faster, and develops technology-enabled solutions to change the way care is given. In short, Your Health Lab benefits from decades of experience in the industry, while providing modern and innovative solutions to the clinical lab model.

The Laboratory employs a staff of approximately 120 employees including administration, client services, sales, logistics, medical technologists, medical staff, phlebotomists, and billing specialists. The company is licensed by the state of Texas with full CAP accreditation. Specimens from all over Texas are transported to the Victoria lab via The Laboratory’s own courier network each night. After that, tests are resulted before offices open the next day.

We’ve got you covered

With more than 40 years in business, we have long-standing relationships and contracts with the vast majority of insurance companies, including all the “majors.” In addition to this, we pre-screen patients for insurance before samples are collected. In the unlikely event you have an insurance plan for which we do not have a contract, we will alert you. Overall, our goal is to make sure every patient receives their In-Network lab benefits. You can view a list of all our in-network insurance providers on our website.

Fast, online results and payments

Above all, our web-based portal makes viewing test results convenient for both patients and providers. Providers can login to review the results as they are available. Then, results are available to patients in the following two to six days. For further convenience, Your Health Lab also accepts payment online. You can login at anytime to view invoices, account details, and pay your bill.

COVID-19 response

From the start of the pandemic, Your Health Lab has been providing clinical testing related to all aspects of the virus. The gold-standard for testing active COVID-19 infections, the PCR Test, has been available at many locations across Texas with at no cost to patients. Meanwhile, Surveillance Testing is also available for sports teams, schools, organizations, and other groups who can benefit from this type of monitoring. Surveillance testing can slow the spread because it proactively identifies asymptomatic individuals that may be positive for COVID-19. In addition to testing for active infection, Your Health Lab offers an antibody test to determine if patients have previously contracted the virus.
